The Taj Mahal completed outside Agra in India is a red and white sandstone and marble mosque, meeting hall, and mausoleum built by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan, now 56, for his favorite wife Mumtaz Mahal (Jewel of the Palace) who died in childbirth some 17 years ago at age 34 after bearing him 14 children.
